Where can I smoke on Maui
Is it true Hotels & Condos can't allow smoking?
Since a 2006 law was enacted, Hawaii prohibits smoking in hotel/condominium rooms throughout the state. Condos & hotels can't allow smoking on the lanai if there is a window or door nearby that could affect another unit. The law also prohibits smoking in “all enclosed or partially enclosed areas open to the public” throughout the Islands".
Some properties have a designated smoking area on the property or, in some cases, in the condo - but window's must be closed.
Hawaii laws prohibit smoking in hotel/condominium rooms throughout the state. Whole hotel chains like Marriott Resorts Hawaii, OHANA Hotels Hawaii and ResortQuest Hotels Hawaii have responded by banning smoking throughout their properties entirely.
Some hotels and condos have designated areas in parking lots or semi hidden areas on property. Since Hawaii is known for wind, some areas are closed if Kona winds are blowing as that would send smoke into windows/doors. Condos & hotels can't allow smoking on the lanai if there is a window or door nearby that could affect another unit.
Fines are high if a Hotel or condo prohibiting smoking in a room finds you did smoke there. Properties that allow smoking in designated areas on their grounds will also fine you if you are found smoking outside in an area not designated for smoking.
