In addition to 5 beaches and 3 world renown golf courses, you’ll find luxurious Hotels, residences & vacation rental villages (limited to 2 stories in height), beautiful palm trees & colorful tropical landscaping, Many dining and shopping options can be found in Wailea’s 1500 acres. Wailea is on the desert side of Maui and averages less than 11″ of rain per year. Located in the lee of Haleakala on Maui’s sunny south side, lush and green thanks to watering, Wailea is the perfect place to enjoy sun and surf. 

Makena Beach Resort, Maui Hawaii is the perfect area for sun seekers wanting a bit more secluded and rustic setting. Temperatures range from 75°- 85°F and rainfall averages less than 12″ per year. Accommodations here are spacious and ours are upgraded and remodelled.

If you want to shop – this is not the place. Known more for water based activities, the nearest shops are in Wailea, but history abounds here. Don’t miss the lava fields a short drive south. Great hikes too.

The quiet, rugged and desert like settings of Makena give way to two ocean front luxury condo resorts (a third under construction on land that used to house the old Prince/Makena Beach hotel) and private homes with pools and ocean views and numerous beaches, lava fields, golf and underwater parks.

Polo Beach is literally steps away from the unique 8 story resort of Polo Beach Club. A parking garage, spacious lawn and ocean front pool complete the setting which marks the end of the Wailea ocean front walk. All units offer 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The units on the south side add pool views and are protected from most of the seasonal winds. The Fairmont Kea Lani Resort Hotel is adjacent.

At the Makena Surf Resort 107 units are distributed in 6 separate three-story buildings and offer breathtaking ocean and mountain views. 2 swimming pools, 2 whirlpool spas, 4 tennis courts, 2 beaches and private BBQ areas are also on property. Turtle town is reachable for a good swimmer. All units offer central air conditioning, large, fully equipped kitchens, wet bar, washers & dryers, cable television, free local phone service and private lanais. The tropical grounds are beautifully planted.

In Makena you will find many great swimming beaches including "Big Beach", snorkelling spots and plentiful parking.

In general, condo accommodations in the resort are larger than those elsewhere on the island.

The old Makena North course has been rebuilt and is now a fabulous but private Golf Courses.

The major hotel, formerly the Prince, then Makena Beach Hotel is no more. Luxury homes & condos are being built. Gone are Sunday brunches, the entire property is going private too.
