About Upcountry
Up Country is rural, cool and hip
Up Country Maui is an entire area that is often missed by visitors because it is not on the shore but a must visit or a for sure "get away from it all" area to visit or stay in.
Up Country offers spectacular views of both South and North shores, local grown produce, cooler weather, arts and crafts plus miles of hiking. It's inexpensive with several bed and breakfasts. Up Country can also include the Haleakala State Park with all its activities: hiking, sun rising events, horse back riding into the crater, etc. The. towns of Kula and Makawao offer great shopping, good places to eat and even glass blowing!

Up Country is unique.
Here are the locals, the residents who in their past have moved up from the beaches and the hot weather to a whole different atmosphere. There's Makawao of Rodeo fame with lots of little art studios and there is Kulu of strawberry, produce, flowers and meat fame. Places to visit include: The Alii Kula Lavender Farm, Kula Botanical Garden, Kula Lodge and Marketplace, Kula Bistro, the Surfing Goat Dairy and Tedeschi Vineyards. Be sure to check scheduled events such as the Sunday Polo matches.
UpCountry is Kula
More than just the town, Kula means "open meadows" in Hawaiian and is one of the 12 foundation districts of ancient Hawaii called moku. Accessed by Haleakela Hwy. Looking for a place to eat? Don't miss Kula Bistro, La Provence & Grandma's Coffee. A good Kula guide can be found here.

How do I find Vacation Rentals in Up Country Maui and Book Directly with the Host?
At this time our website has no legal vacation rentals available in East Maui.
Should you have a legal, permitted rental we would love to take a look and if appropriate, add it to our site. CONTACT US
There are some legal bed & breakfast and vacation rentals here but many of those you find searching on line are not permitted. Be aware that Maui is serious about closing down illegal rentals so if you don't want to run the risk of finding the accommodation you rented padlocked, use due diligence.
