Getting around on Maui:

Alternatives to Renting a Car at the Airport:

  • Take a Taxi or Airport Van to your hotel or condo
    • SpeediShuttle: 808-875-8070 Transportation to and from the airport for all parts of Maui.
    • Freds's Taxi: 808-357-7663 My favorite airport transport. This recommended resource costs about $70 one way to Kihei area. He can accommodate up to 5 or 6 with luggage. - book ahead (a month or more for airport transport is recommended) to insure availability by calling or email: [email protected] with subject TO (or FROM) AIRPORT TAXI - let him know I sent you
    • Uber: For those using the sharing economy, Uber is on Maui!
  • Rent a car locally to avoid at least the airport taxes and return it at the airport for a $60 fee - less than the cost of a cab or van to Wailea or Makena - about the same as a cab from Kihei or Ma'alaea to the Airprot (OGG) in Kahului.

Other Maui Transportation Ideas

  • The MAUI BUS: Though many think it operates on Maui time, the mobile friendly website now has live route maps showing where the bus is and estimated arrival times. A great way to see the island and maybe make a local friend.

The Maui Bus operates 14 bus routes and provide service in and between various Central, South, West, Haiku, Kula and Upcountry Maui communities. All of the routes are operated seven days a week, including all holidays. No transfers are given on any of the routes. All vehicles on the routes are ADA accessible. Rates vary from $4/ride for general fees to $1 for seniors over 55, disabled and others. Children under 8 ride free when accompanied by a paying passenger. Stops are well marked. Monthly, weekly and daily passes are available.

  • Rent a car locally for a few days at a time when you want to take a road trip. After all you are on the beach and most restaurants and shopping are walkable. Get groceries delivered.
  • Rent a bike if you want to wander a bit farther afield. Golf courses will rent you clubs or even move yours
