The Road to Hana has about 600 curves and 54 bridges. This means it’s at least a 3 hour trip to Hana – one way starting from Paia. On the east after Kalepa Bridge, the highway continues to Kīpahulu as Hawaii Route 31 and winds up Haleakala and back down to Kahului. We like coming the back way – but watch for weather and cattle- some sections are unpaved past Kipahulu and one lane curves mean an hour for the 10 mile stretch.
